We’ve already seen the Japanese fashion brand SuperGroupies teaming up with God of War to offer some sweet swag that included three collector accessories of a watch, wallet, and bag inspired by the 2018 reboot, and also the much-beloved NieR series partnered up with them too to offer products inspired by anime and games in a special part 2 10th anniversary celebration. This time, however, they’re launching a Metal Gear Solid-themed lineup of apparel and more. For the first time, Super Groupies is collaborating with Konami that will deck fans out in some cool merch so let’s take a look at the lineup.
First up on the list, Super Groupies are offering a watch inspired by Solid Snake that is equipped with a calendar and days of the week functions. You’ll also notice how the game’s most iconic colors are used throughout the watch’s face and the Foxhound Special Force Group emblem is embedded along the center bottom. Since the days are getting shorter, you could very well benefit from the glow in the dark dials that light up the watch when you need it most. Flipping the watch over, etched into the case back is the logo for Metal Gear Solid. Although, in my opinion, the best part of this product is that it comes in a pretty cool cardboard box, one of the most iconic items in the Metal Gear series. It’s priced at ¥ 19,800 (roughly $190).
Next up is a backpack, again using the game’s famous colors throughout. Equipped with multiple pockets for maximum utility, it also features the Foxhound emblem and the phrase “One Man Army” and a Japanese kanji character, all of which represent Snake. The design of the bag’s shoulder straps and Y-shaped straps on the front are inspired by Snake’s Sneaking Suit. If you’re looking to pick this up, you’ll have to fork up ¥ 14,800 which translates to around $140.
As we approach the end of the goodies up for grabs, there’s also a Solid Snake-inspired mods coat in a sleek dark gray with yellow throughout and also some sharp-looking boots with zippers on the sides making it a perfect shoe for swift getaways. The coat comes in at an eye-watering ¥ 23,800 (around $230) and the boots will set you back ¥ 19,800 ($190) so I’m guessing you would have to really be into Metal Gear Solid to purchase these.
Pre-orders for all of the merch mentioned have already begun and will be available until Monday, December 14, 2020, with the shipping of the goods starting early next spring.
